Your turbocharger is a very expensive piece of your Powerstroke Diesel engine. Proper packaging is CRITICAL to it's safe arrival at our shop. The information below should ensure that your turbo doesn't suffer from any damage while in the hands of the shipping company.
Place your turbo into a plastic bag (garbage bag will work) and use tape or "zip ties" to secure the plastic around the intake and exhaust openings. This will ensure that no "debris" gets into the turbo in transit and the shop can see it as it was removed from the truck.
We recommend that the turbo be placed in a box with at least 2" of room all the way around it (4" is preferable). A firm packaging material like wadded up "kraft paper" offers better protection than "foam peanuts" as the paper is not as likely to shift around in the box during transit.
Because of the weight of the turbo, we recommend that the bottom of the box be reinforced with extra cardboard. We also recommend that the bottom flaps be glued shut, then taped with a high strength packaging tape.
You may want to consider putting the first box into a larger box with more packaging material for added protection.
Clearly mark the box with arrows and words indicating which side is UP. Also mark it with "Fragile" and "Do NOT Drop!!!".
Insure the package for $1000 replacement value! This is a little more that what a rebuilt replacement turbocharger would cost.
Please e-mail us at sales@itpdiesel.com with the tracking information. This lets us know that the turbo is coming and allows us to watch for it and make sure it arrives safely.
