...MY 2002+ FORD SUPER DUTY ALREADY HAS A TRANS TEMP GAUGE...

We get asked all the time about the factory Transmission Temp Gauge in the 2002+ Ford Super Duty trucks. Many people think that they don't need to add an aftermarket transmission temp gauge if their truck has one from the factory. This couldn't be farther from the truth...especially if you tow!

Take a look at the pictures below. These were shot on a 2004 F350 6.0L PSD. The results will be similar for the trucks with the 7.3L as well. There are a few things to note:

  1. The first set of pictures is with the truck sitting and idling over a 10 minute period. Note the lack of movement on the AutoMeter gauge while the factory gauge moves all the way up into the "Normal" position. Remember, this truck is just sitting and idling...
  2. The second set of pictures is taken at 3 mile intervals over a 15 mile drive around town. Note that the AutoMeter gauge covers about 60°F from the last IDLING picture to the last DRIVING picture while the factory gauge doesn't move at all.

It is our opinion that the factory gauge is not much more than a fancy IDIOT INDICATOR. It serves no real purpose as a transmission temperature gauge as it has no numeric markings and doesn't move with signficant changes in fluid temperature. The choice is yours, hopefully this will help you to make a more informed decision...
